I grew up in Georgetown, Kentucky. Spent most of my adult life moving in and out of Lexington. Close enough to call it home, far enough to remember where I came from. I've been married to my wife for 26 years and we've got three grown kids, all out on their own now.
Before pressure washing, I climbed poles. Twenty years as a lineman for the local cable company. I picked up most of my technical training there. Fiber optics, plant design, maintenance, all of it. It was good work and it taught me how to fix things that other people didn't want to mess with. But by the time I hit my late thirties I was looking for something else.
The business started by accident in 2009. I spilled motor oil all over my parents' driveway. Borrowed a pressure washer to clean it up, and somewhere between the first pass and the second I started thinking. There's probably a real business in this. So I started Inman ProWash out of a truck and trailer.
I had big plans for pressure washing right out of the gate, but what actually took off was deck restoration. For the first five years I did almost nothing else. Cleaning, brightening, sanding, staining. Decks were where I built the business. I didn't even advertise pressure washing back then. Around year five I started marketing the rest of what I could do. Now we do more pressure washing than decks, but the deck work is still here. It's how I learned to slow down and do something right the first time.
The business grew bigger than I expected. At its peak we had nine employees and five trucks. I was running crews more than I was on jobsites. The problem wasn't the volume. It was the talent. Quality professionals are hard to find, and I wasn't willing to put crews on jobs I wouldn't be proud of. So I made the call to shrink it back down to where I could be on every job again. That's where we are now and that's where we're staying.
Outside of work my life is pretty simple. I love my family. We vacation when we can. I'm a hot rod and motorcycle guy. I ride when the weather's right, and my wife and I spend a lot of weekends at car shows. The business has put two of our three kids through college, which is something I never expected back when I was hosing oil off my parents' driveway in 2009.
